People often think of Solar as the silver bullet to cure their rising energy bills, but it is always a good idea to first start with the existing electrical system and the usage.
For example, in domestic situations, by timing things to come on when they are actually needed or checking the appliances are efficient.

In commercial situations often usage is an unknown and each electrical load is lost in the general day to day running. Over the period of years electrical loads are added and then efficiency is lost.

It is good practice to assess the electrical equipment and ensure it is being used efficiently and shut down when not in use.

This assessment can either be done by visual inspection or by installing an energy logger for normally a 7 day duration. This logger will inform of peaks and usage over a week. Often the surprise is how much usage is over night, when often the premises is closed, and no one is using the facilities.

The cause of this energy usage is often cured by timers or just turning things off properly.

The Smart Export Guarantee (SEG) was a scheme introduced by the UK government in January 2020 to replace the previous Feed-in Tariff scheme for small-scale renewable energy generators.
